There is no love like the love I have for a good breakfast sandwich. It is the very essence of comfort food. The buttery toast of the bun, the drip-melt of the cheese, and the savory goodness inside.
It’s not fancy. This is just really, really delicious food that feels like peak humanity and tastes like sheer joy. These recipes are life changingly yummy, and you deserve them.
1. Breakfast Grilled Cheese
I’m just going to say it: grilled cheese is a 24/7 food for me. It’s my secret weapon for those nights when cooking just feels like too much work.
But turning it into a breakfast sandwich? Total game-changer.
We’re talking salty sausage, creamy eggs, and just so much gooey, melty cheese. And you know what? Go ahead and toss some bacon in there, maybe a little hot sauce. You won’t regret it.
2. Avocado Toast Breakfast Sandwich
Okay, I know what you’re thinking. Avocado toast? But hear me out, because it’s popular for a reason: it’s SO GOOD.
I don’t care about the memes, I’m here for the flavor.
I am so in love with the vibrant color and amazing texture, especially when you add some crispy bacon to the mix. For me, this whole situation on some crunchy toast or a classic everything bagel is just pure magic.
3. Baked Croissant Breakfast Sandwiches
Friends, we need to talk. If you haven’t experienced a croissant breakfast sandwich, you are seriously missing out.
The buttery, flaky croissant packed with bacon, egg, and cheese is what dreams are made of. It’s just a perfect combination.
Here’s a little secret: croissants freeze beautifully! And since you’ll be toasting them anyway, using day-old ones is a total pro move.
4. Breakfast Monte Cristo Sandwich
As someone who is a huge fan of anything sweet and savory, this one is easily one of my favorites. The flavors happening between the eggy bread and ham, plus the jam and powdered sugar, are just incredible.
I know it might sound a little wild, but the ham and jam combo just works so well together.
The cheese brings a creaminess to the whole thing, and then you get that savory egg, too.
If you’re not feeling the raspberry jam, you could try it with a fresh tomato and caramelized onion jam instead.
5. Maple Bourbon Chicken & Waffle Sandwich
Fried chicken in the morning? You know this is a must-try!
I think the waffles are what make this whole thing so special. Otherwise, you’d just be having a fried chicken sandwich for breakfast.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that! But I am just obsessed with how the waffle and syrup flavors come together with that crispy chicken.
6. The Ultimate Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich
You might be asking yourself what gives this recipe the right to call itself “the ultimate” breakfast sandwich.
Well, it could be the fried eggs, or the smashed avocado, or the crispy bacon. Maybe it’s the thick tomato slices, or possibly the melted cheddar.
For me, it’s all about the everything biscuits! How did I not think of this before? You can usually find them at Trader Joe’s, or it’s super simple to make your own.
7. French Toast Sandwiches
Fun fact: in the UK, they call French toast “eggy bread,” and it’s usually savory. They prepare it the same way but serve it up with bacon, eggs, and baked beans. It’s so delicious!
Of course, you could totally make these sweet by adding some Nutella and bananas.
But I am telling you, going savory with cheese and bacon is the way to go. You will be so happy you did!
8. Peanut Butter and Jelly Waffle Sandwiches
This might be the simplest sandwich on the entire list. I mean, who doesn’t have a box of frozen waffles hiding in the freezer?
I know how amazing homemade waffles are, but when you’re in a hurry, you can just pop the frozen ones in the toaster.
Peanut butter and jelly is such a classic pairing, and they get all warm and melty inside the waffles. It makes for one heck of a tasty snack.
9. Ultimate Jalapeño Wafflewich Recipe
Just in case you wanted something that’s really thinking outside the box, here you go: a jalapeño waffle sandwich.
It’s loaded up with sausage patties, hash browns, and eggs. This is a cowboy’s breakfast dream come true!
10. Veggie Packed Freezer Breakfast Sandwiches
You’ll see eggs in so many of these because they are just an amazing way to kick off your day. They are packed with protein and will keep you feeling full for hours.
And what’s a better way to get even more nutrients than with a huge pile of veggies?
This recipe calls for spinach and red peppers, but feel free to use whatever you have hanging around. Mushrooms would be a fantastic addition.
11. Huevos Rancheros Breakfast Sandwich
The first time I had huevos rancheros was on a vacation in Mexico, and I was completely hooked after just one bite.
Between the refried beans, the salsa, the guacamole, and that perfectly runny egg yolk, I find myself making this for a spicy dinner all the time.
You can definitely keep this vegetarian, but I love to add a little chicken or pork for some extra protein. I’ve even made this exact recipe with a bagel, and it was so tasty and filling.
12. Blueberry Brie Grilled Cheese
I have to be honest, I went down a deep “gourmet grilled cheese” rabbit hole while looking up this recipe. And then, of course, I had to make a grilled cheese for myself.
But I’m back, and I’m ready to tell you all about it!
Using brie might feel a little extra, and it totally is, but you just can’t beat the creaminess you get from it. If you’re going to make a fancy grilled cheese, you can’t really use American slices, can you?
13. Croque Madame
A Croque Monsieur is that super decadent grilled cheese I find myself craving at least once a week.
But a Croque Madame? That’s a whole other level of amazing.
It takes everything you adore about the monsieur, from the Gruyère and the thick-cut ham to that unbelievable mornay sauce, and then it gets topped with a fried egg.
There are very few things in this world that a runny yolk doesn’t improve.
14. Grilled Nutella Banana Sandwich
This sandwich is like something out of a dream. The toasty bread with sweet bananas and creamy Nutella just gets better with each bite, and you won’t want to share.
I’ve made this with sliced brioche, as French toast, and even with banana bread! And when I’m feeling particularly wild, I’ll add in some crispy bacon. You have to try it!
15. Open-Faced Denver Sandwiches
After spending a good amount of time in Scandinavia and the Baltics, I’ve eaten a lot of open-faced sandwiches.
There’s nothing quite like a platter full of them, with all the beautiful ingredients and colors on display.
These are extra special because I’m sure most of us have had a Denver omelet with hash browns and diner coffee.
I love that this recipe uses scrambled eggs, and it looks just perfect with a sprinkle of green onions over the top.
16. Breakfast BLT
The BLT is such a classic, and it’s for a very good reason. That combination of toasted bread, salty bacon, and juicy tomatoes is a match made in heaven.
Now just imagine all of that with a perfectly fried egg and a golden, runny yolk. Once again, I love adding a few hits of hot sauce, but mayo is also a fantastic choice.
17. Apple Pie Grilled Cheese
This one might be a little controversial. Apple, cinnamon, sugar, and… cheese? Yep, you read that right.
Apple and cheese is a classic combination, actually. The creamy, sharp cheddar works perfectly with the sweet and acidic apple.
The key here is to grate the apples so they cook down and get soft, instead of having big chunks mixed in with the cheese.
If you’re not quite sold on the cheese, you could swap in some cream cheese for a sort of faux-cheesecake filling.
18. Banana Pancake Sandwich
I used to make these on camping trips, but they were more like banana pancake tacos.
We’d fold a pancake, stuff it with bananas and peanut butter, and then dip the whole thing in syrup.
But if you’re not eating on a log in the woods, these sandwiches are the next best thing.
You could even put together a fun DIY platter with different fruits, chocolate, and some whipped cream.
